Gillian and the Machine was written 10 years ago but is more relevant now than ever. It is the story of a young girl who has a machine show up in her yard. At first, she dismisses the machine because it pollutes her stream. She soon learns, however, that the machine is capable of practical tasks such as doing her homework.
In subsequent days, different machines appear in her yard, one digital and another made of light. Eventually, after having the machines do her homework and failing as a result, she learns that it is best to do her own work.
